We are currently living on a world totally unfamiliar to all of us, completely ruining our routine. Our weekly, bi weekly or even monthly beauty visits to the spa have been halted, which means that our eyebrows, eyelash extensions, hair growth, etc, haven’t had the desired regular maintenance. The urge to DIY (Do it yourself) during this crisis will become stronger than ever, but before doing so Luxe Day Spa has come up the following top 5 list of beauty treatments to NOT DIY and the resulting possible risks involved with each.
1- Do NOT remove/pull off your eyelash extensions:
Yes, it can be very frustrating to be overdue on your lash refill and have a few stragglers hanging on for dear life. Pulling your eyelash extensions can cause serious damage to your natural lashes if not removed properly, which can lead to a disruption of the growth of your natural eyelashes. Your best option is to wait and let the extensions fall out on their own.
2- Do NOT shave if you regularly wax:
We all know that no one wants to look like a cavewoman or a 1980’s playboy centerfold. If you are used to waxing or sugaring regularly, shaving just one time in between treatments will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles, which can cause ingrown hairs. Your best “at home” option is to simply trim the unwanted hair until your next appointment.
With so much uncertainty in the world today there is added stress to your life, which can lead to breakouts. Refrain from nervously picking at your blemishes. Picking at your blemishes can lead to scarring, more break outs due to bacteria transfer and more stress because you will become more self conscious as you continue to break out more and more. Additionally, due to Covid-19, it is now a vital health issue to refrain from picking your skin. The best solution is cleanse your skin twice a day, using a serum and moisturizer indicated for your skin type and always wear sunblock if exposed to the sun. A detox mask is also a great alternative once or twice a week.
4- Do NOT tweeze your own eyebrows:
No one will care about your unibrow during this pandemic. Tweezing your own eyebrows can lead to the hair not growing back and you risk permanently losing your most flattering shape. Be patient and try to leave your beautiful eyebrows alone or just brush them daily until you can make it back to your brow specialist. The break might even be an opportunity to let your eyebrows grow out to maybe try a different shape at your next spa appointment.
5- Do NOT try to perm or lash lift your own eyelashes:
It is very dangerous to lash lift using over the counter, or online treatments, as you will have chemicals near your eyes and run major risks such as infections, retinal burns and, in the most severe cases, blindness. The most common risk is over processing, which leads to the eyelashes being burned, looking brittle, breaking off, falling out or looking extremely curled. We know you miss your beauty treatments, but right now it’s best to stay safe and healthy until you can see your favorite esthetician again.
