Want to learn how to prevent an eyelid infection? Eyelid infection is unfortunate but very common among people who wear Eyelash extensions and do not cleanse the eyelid area thoroughly, and between adults that have poor eye hygiene, 50% will develop Blepharitis. Some clients are afraid to wet their eyelash extensions since they think it will interfere with the retention of their luscious lashes, but that’s NOT true at all. You will actually lose more lashes if you don’t clean them to remove the collection of oil, dirt and make up that will build up on your lash line and in between the extensions. The worst case scenario, if you don’t maintain good eye hygiene, is that you may end up with a NASTY eyelid infection called Blepharitis. All eyelash extension clients need to be educated (at Luxe Day Spa Soho ours most certainly are) to clean their eyelash extensions and eyelid area to prevent Blepharitis from occurring whether they wear makeup or not. Lashes should be cleaned at least 2 times per week for non-makeup wearing clients and nightly for clients who do wear
eye makeup. A couple of cleansing options are Chrissanthie eyelid cleanser, it cleans off dust, oil and residue buildup makeup or dirt or any oil free makeup remover (keep in mind many oil free cleansers or makeup removers contain Glycerin, which is an oily ingredient often add to “oil free” removers). Use with a micro brush applicator or rub with your fingertips to get in between the lashes. A normal Q-tip is perfect for removing eyeliner and eyeshadow.

This condition can be managed and the client will be able to wear eyelash extensions again. The client will also need to throw away her/his makeup to avoid future contamination. For new eyelash extensions clients we always stress the importance of proper cleaning to avoid potential problems.
